How I Work
How Creative Counselling Works
I work from a Person-Centred approach, utilising various therapeutic schools of thought depending on you, on our therapeutic relationship, and on the issues you bring. I trained at the Heartwood Center for Counselling and Psychotherapy, where we learn a Person-Centred approach and include Gestalt and CBT training.
What Creative Counselling looks like in a session
Creative techniques are always optional and client-led — nothing is ever required. Depending on what feels useful, that might mean bringing in art materials, imagery, or other creative approaches alongside talking, as a way of exploring things that are hard to put into words.
Person-Centred, Gestalt, and CBT — in plain terms
Person-Centred counselling starts from the idea that you're the expert on your own life — the therapist's role is to offer a warm, non-judgemental, consistent space rather than to direct or diagnose. Gestalt brings attention to what's happening for you right now, in the room, as a way of understanding patterns. CBT looks at the links between thoughts, feelings, and behaviour, and can offer practical tools for specific difficulties.
Working with trauma
I've undertaken additional training to work safely and sensitively with trauma, with an emphasis on pacing and safety throughout our work together.
Ongoing training
As therapists, we're required to frequently update our learning and qualifications through CPD throughout the year, so I'm always adding extra tools and techniques into my therapeutic practice.
